PURPOSE: To devise mass production of fiber reinforced plastic (hereinafter called "FRP") molded products with decorations and/or patterns by the following method; different colored pieces of FRP plates are fixed on a mold, and gel-coated resin of a base color is applied in their surrounding areas, and FRP lamination is carried out after hardening of the resin.
CONSTITUTION: A colored FRP plate A is one of the ordinary FRP plates consisting of a colored gel-coated layer a1, middle layer a2 and a back-up layer a3, and is molded by hand lay-up or pressed into shapes respectively for colors of patterns and decorations. A colored FRP plate A (for instance) is cut out in accordance with the structural shapes of their patterns or decorations and the piece A1 for the color concerned is made and it is fixed on a mold B. In the above case, the piece A1 for respective color is fixed with a double adhesive backed tape 11 which is arranged to provide edging all around the edge touching the mold area (b) of colored gel-coat a1. A colored gel-coat layer c1 which becomes a base is applied over the mold area (b) with the exception of the area upon which the colored piece A1 is placed, and after hardening, the middle layer c2 and the back-up layer c3 are laminated on the whole of the mold area (b) including the portion for the piece A1; and a FRP product is obtained after release from the mold subsequent to hardening.
