PURPOSE: To strongly bond fiber reinforced plastic(FRP) pipe and metallic flange with each other so as to realize a driving shaft, which is reliable in strength, by a method wherein the metallic flanges are fixed temporarily to both the ends of a mandrel and fiber returning pins are planted on the cylindrical part of each flange so as to wind fiber in multiple layers by returning it at the fiber returning pins and, after that, the temporarily fixed mandrel is removed.
CONSTITUTION: Metallic flanges 9, each of which has threaded holes 10 for planting fiber returning pins 11, are temporarily fixed to both the ends of a mandrel 8 by means of machine screws or keys. The edge of the flan flange 9 has a tapered part 12 for smoothly producing fiber layer. Fiber returning pins 11 are screwed in the threaded holes 10 so as to return resin-impregnated fiber in order to wind the fiber round them in multiple turns in order to produce fiber layer 13. After that, the pins 11, which protrude beyond the fiber layer 13 are removed by being cut. Then, fiber is further wound round the upper parts of the pins and the force parts of the tapered part 12 of each flange so as to produce reinforcing fiber layer 14. Finally, the resultant layers are heated for hardening treatment and the mandrel 8 is removed so as to complete an FRP driving shaft.
