PURPOSE: To manufacture fins of good quality with precise dimensions effectively by forming a groove at the periphery of a rotating mother material in the form of a short column by the use of a rotary cutter in the form of a disc, by feeding the shaping roller with a band-shaped metal cut away to a certain depth by the use of a cutter in the neighborhood of the periphery of mother material, and thereby accomplishing a fin.
CONSTITUTION: A short-cylindrical mother material 16 borne on a stand A and disc-shaped cutter 25 supported at the tip of support arms 22, 22 are rotated in the same direction, and a groove 30 is formed at the center of periphery of the mother material 16 throughout its circumference so as to form divided surfaces 31a, 31b. The surface course of one of the divided surfaces 31a is cut away to a certain depth by the use of a tool 18 having the same depth w or a little wiser W so as to yield a band-shaped metal 9, which is fed to shaping rollers meshing with each other to accomplish a fin. The remaining divided surface 31b is processed in the same manner to yield a fin. Accordingly the width can be restricted accurately, and it is free from generation of fine burrs at side edges of the band-shaped metal 9, which ensures that fins of quality are manufactured effectively.
