PURPOSE: To obtain a display member for a clock, which is excellent in its weather resistance and shock resistance, by shearing an index, etc. of a dial substrate by use of a die and a punch, and after that, executing its compression coupling by coining working.

CONSTITUTION: A dial substrate 1 is patterned in advance, a plating layer 5 for decoration is worked, and after that, the dial substrate 1 on which a surface protective film 6 such as lacquer, etc. has been formed in placed between a knock-out 8 and a stripper 7 incorporated in a die 3, and when a punch 4 is raised relatively, a shearing crack 9 is generated, and a sheared index 2 is formed in a groove of the die 3. When the punch 4 is further inserted into the dial substrate 1, the once sheared index part 2 and the dial substrate 2 are compressed and coupled by a compressing friction effect of an inclined surface 3a of the die groove and an inclined surface 4b of the punch trapezoidal part, and a coining effect of the lower surface of the knock-out 8 and a punch upper surface 4a.
