PURPOSE: To manufacture a getter device having a good getter effect efficiently by deforming a getter case by applying pressure to the case by pressing or something similar after a getter member is put in the case.

CONSTITUTION: An annular metal case 11 one end of which is opened has a square vertical section. In packing a getter member 12 into the case 11 with pressure, pressure is applied by pressing or something similar by use of a metal mold 13. The under die of the mold 13 is provided with a concave part 14 having almost a semi-circular shape. As pressure is applied to the case 11 after it is put in the concave part 14, the getter member 12 is condensed, and the case 11 is deformed in conformity with the shape of the concave part 14. As the result, a getter device consisting of an annular metal getter case 11A, and a getter member 12A packed in the case 11A is obtained. Since the angular part around the bottom of the case 11 is removed by the above pressing work, since friction occuring during the packing of the getter member 12 decreases, and since force caused by the deformation of the case 11 is applied to the member 12, the fluidity of the member 12 is remarkably increased. Consequently, a homogeneity of the packed density of the getter member 12A in the case 11A can be realized.
