PURPOSE: To manufacture a Pb alloy member with superior mechanical strength and corrosion resistance, by casting a Pb-Ca alloy to a prescribed shape, holding the casting at a specified temp. for a suitable time, cooling it, and holding it again at a specified temp.
CONSTITUTION: A Pb-Ca alloy such a Pb-Ca-Sn alloy is melted by heating to about 400W550°C, poured into a mold of a prescribed shape heated to about 120W200°C, and taken out. The casting is held at 50W100°C for ≥10min without carrying out rapid cooling, and it is cooled and heat treated again at 50W100°C. Thus, a Pb alloy member with superior mechanical strength and corrosion resistance is obtd. When the member is especially used as a grid, a pole or the like of a lead storage battery, the battery can be reduced in size and provided with a long life. The corrosion resistance of the alloy is hardly deteriorated by rolling.
