PURPOSE: To facilitate the manufacture of the raw material of the magnetic scale and to simplify the structure of an automatic machine, by forming a thin film by chemical plating of nickel phosphorus.
CONSTITUTION: The cylindrical magnetic scale 11 is prepared by plating the thin film 13 including nickel and phosphorus as main components on the surface of a cylindrical base material 12 by the chemical plating. The thin film 13 is heated at a specified interval. The permeability of the thin film 13 is changed at a specified interval, and the magnetically changed parts 14 are yielded. The changed parts 14 are provided in a ring shape at a specified interval. When the displacement occurs in the direction of an arrow 15, an electric signal having the magnitude corresponding to the permeability of the changed parts 14 is generated in a detector 16 which is provided in the vicinity of the scale 11. By processing said signal, the relative displacement speed between the scale 11 and the detector 16 and the acceleration are measured.
