PURPOSE: To improve the yield of a slab by previously spreading the width of a cutting part larger than an aimed value in accordance with the wedge-shape of a cutting blade in hot edging.
CONSTITUTION: A roll opening of vertical rolls 9 is set by rolling reduction screws 12 driven through an opening-adjustment device 10 and worm wheels 11, and the adjustment of roll opening i.e. the change of a slab width can be performed by spline coupling the rolling reduction screws 12 with the worm wheel 11 and a housing 13, and by changing the stroke of a roll-opening hydraulic-control device 14 with the aid of a hydraulic pressure even during rolling. With this mechanism, hot edging is performed by previously setting the amount of sroke of the device 14 in accordance with the edge-shape of a cutting blade, to spread the width of a cutting part larger than its aimed value. In this way, the width-shortage phenomenon of a cut slab is eliminated and the yield of of a product is improved.
