Abstract:
A process for the preparation of para-substituted 3-bromobenzaldehydes of the formula I in which R represents alkyl or halogen, by reacting benzaldehydes in an inert solvent in the presence of a catalyst, with bromine in a molar ratio of 1:0.5 to 1:0.6 and chlorine, the ratio of bromine to chlorine being 1:1 to 1:1.3.
