PURPOSE: To manufacture a partially composite member having toughness and integrated structure by sintering SiC whisker and Al alloy powder to make composite base material, applying dispersed slurry of noble metal series and/or carbide series material on this surface, drying and inserting this with molten Al alloy in a mold as internal chill.
CONSTITUTION: Mixed material of the SiC whisker and the Al alloy powder is sintered into the prescribed shape to make the composite base material. On the surface of composite base material, the dispersed slurry of noble metal series material and/or carbide series ceramic material is applied, dried and set to the prescribed position in the mold. After that, this is inserted with the molten Al alloy as internal chill. As the noble metal series material, Au, Ag, Pt or Pt-Pd is used and as the carbide series ceramic material, SiC, TiC or B4C is used. By this method, good interface joining between this and matrix Al alloy can be always obtd.
