PURPOSE: To obtain the title microcapsule useful for giving a photosensitive material which produces an image with excellent quality by subjecting an aqueous phase containing a water-dispersed basic precursor to a specified processing, and forming the shell of the microcapsule in the manufacture of the title microcapsule containing at least a silver halide, a basic precursor, etc.

CONSTITUTION: The manufacture of the title microcapsule containing at least a silver halide, a reducing agent, a substance for forming a color image, a polymerizable compound, and a basic precursor, wherein an aqueous phase containing a water-dispersed basic precursor (e.g. a compound of formula I) is emulsified in an oil phase containing at least a copolymer of formula II (wherein A is a repeating unit derived from an ionizable hydrophilic monomer; B is a repeating unit derived from a hydrophobic monomer; (x) and (y) are the number of mol% and respectively satisfy 5≤x≤95 and 5≤y≤95, provided that x+y=100) (e.g. a compound of formula III) and a polymerizable compound (e.g. a compound of formula TV) in a state in which the hydrophilic site of the copolymer is ionized, the resulting W/O emulsion is then emulsified in an aqueous phase containing a water-soluble polymer to give a W/O/W emulsion, and the shell of microcapsule is formed thereon.
