PURPOSE: To allow lacquer with excellent glossiness to be painted into engraved parts by forming a solvent resistant film on the surface of a plastic plate without solvent resistance, and then engraving specified characters or patterns.

CONSTITUTION: A solvent resistant film 3 is formed on the surface of a transparent hard polyvinylchloride or polycarbonate plate 2 by silk screen printing. The character parts 4 of specified characters, patterns, or the like are engraved on the solvent resistant film 3 of the plastic plate 2. Lacquer enamel 5, solvent type quick drying paint, is painted on the engraved character parts 4 by brush coating and dried in a heating chamber or the like. Lacquer painted parts projecting from the engraved character parts 4 are then wiped with cloth impregnated with lacquer thinner to obtain a fine plastic name plate 1 with only the engraved character parts 4 colored. There is the possibility of this lacquer thinner melting the surface of the plastic plate 2, but the surface of the plastic plate 2 is not melted because of the inclusion of the solvent resistant film 3.
