PURPOSE: To facilitate manufacture of a saw blade which is improved in the sharpness and has high wear-resistance by making a knife edge chip which has been previously surface-treated for wear-resistance, and welding the chip to a base material for a saw blade by laser welding or the like.
CONSTITUTION: The forward end cutting face of a knife edge chip 2 manufactured by cutting a carbon steel by a wire cut discharge machining is subjected to discharge coating while a coating material electrode is rotated to apply the wear-resistance treatment. Subsequently, the cutting edge chip 2 is temporarily retained on the projecting area 1a of the side edge part of a belt-like base material and bonded thereto. The adhesive area of the moved and retained chip 2 is welded thereto by laser. Accordingly, it is possible to manufacture a cutting edge chip 2 which has a satisfactory sharness and high wear-resistance so as to very easily manufacture a saw blade.
