PURPOSE: To weld a shadow mask with stable tension to a frame by applying tension to the shadow mask without applying compression stress to the frame.
CONSTITUTION: A holding device 15 provided outside of tension adjusting devices 5, 6 holds a vertical end part 10a of a shadow mask 10. Then, the shadow mask 10 is put between a recess part and a projection part of the tension adjusting devices 5, 6. Tension (D) is generated by pulling the mask in the direction of an arrow (G). Then, holding device 17 is moved in the direction of an arrow (K), and a frame 12 is moved in the direction of an arrow (E) together with a support table 16. Then, both vertical end parts 10a are released. The shadow mask 10 is welded on a weld face 13 of the frame 12. Thus, welding without causing any wrinkles or waves can be performed.
