PURPOSE: To reduce the increase of the internal resistance of a silver oxide cell caused during its preservation by integrating a positive electrode, which is prepared by reducing the surface layer of a molded silver-oxide body into an argentous oxide layer before the surface layer of the said argentous oxide layer is reduced into a silver layer, into the battery, and subjecting the battery to preliminary discharge so as to form silver layers near the contact surfaces of the positive electrode.
CONSTITUTION: A positive electrode 1 is prepared by reducing the surface layer of a pressed molded body made of silver oxide so as to form an argentous oxide layer around a silver oxide layer 2, and reducing the surface layer of the above argentous oxide layer so as to form a silver layer 4a around an argentous oxide layer 3. A battery containing thus prepared positive electrode 1 is subjected to preliminary discharge so as to form silver layers 4b near the contact surface between the positive electrode 1 and a separator 6 and near the contact surface between the electrode 1 and the side wall of a positive can 5. By thus forming the silver layers 4b near the contact surfaces between the electrode 1, and the separator 6 and the can 5 by preliminary discharge, the increase of the internal resistance of the battery caused during its preservation can be suppressed without making the thickness of the silver layer 4 large.
