PURPOSE: To manufacture long wires with high mechanical strength and stable superconductivity by contracting a complex body formed from a tubing of specific copper alloy and a rod consisting of copper alloy in the diametric direction for provision of a wire, forming an oxide layer at the periphery of this wire, and then subjecting it to heat treatment.
CONSTITUTION: A complex body is formed from a tubing 1, which consists of copper alloy containing element of IIIa group or copper alloy containing element of alkali earth metal, and a rod 2 which consists of copper alloy containing element of alkali earth metal or copper alloy containing element of IIIa group. This complex body 3 obtained is contracted in the diametric direction for provision of a wire 4, and an oxide layer is formed on this wire 4 followed by a heat treatment. Thus wire 4 is made from the complex body 3 of copper alloy which is easier to process than the superconductive powder of oxide type, a long superconductive wire of oxide type A with excellent mechanical strength can be obtained. This together with no application of load to superconductive body layer 7 owing to diametric contacting process, should provide a superconductive wire of oxide type A having stable superconductivity.
