Abstract:
PURPOSE: To manufacture a woody material having dimensional stability by expediting chemical change of wood in the material, coating or impregnating it with an inorganic acid exhibiting acid in aqueous solution or its salt and then heat treating the material.
CONSTITUTION: After Western hemlock is boiled at about 90°C for about 15min, it is immediately dipped in about 1% hydrochloric acid to impregnate the wood with the acid. This is dried at about 60°C for about 6 hours, and further heated at about 150°C for about 5 hours to obtain the wood. Accordingly, a woody material is heated at a relatively low temperature for a short time, thereby manufacturing the material having dimensional stability.
