PURPOSE: To prevent the thermal effect of a steel sheet and to improve the quality of a lead clad steel sheet by providing in series pickling device, electric nickel plating device or electrolytic copper plating device, electrolytic lead plating device and lead cladding device and attaching a lead plate feeding device to the lead cladding device.

CONSTITUTION: A trip steel 2 is rewound from a rewinding reel 1, the acid cleaning of the strip steel 2 is executed by a pickling device 3 and washed by a water washing tank 4. The strip steel is then led to electrolytic nickel plating device or electrolytic copper plating device 5, nickel or copper plating is executed on both faces of the strip steel 2 and the plated strip steel 2 is washed in a water washing tank 4a. The plated strip steel 2 is then led to an electrolytic lead plating device 6, lead plating is executed on the upper layer of the nickel or copper plating and after washing in a water washing tank 4b the moisture of the surface is dried by a drying device 12 it is led to a press-fitting device 7. On the other hand a lead sheet 10 is rewound from the rewinding machine 1a of a lead sheet feeding device 9 and after activating the contact face by grinding it with a brush roll 8 it is fed to the side face of the strip steel 2 of the cladding device 7 and cladded to the steel sheet 2. In case of both faces clad steel sheet a lead sheet 10b is fed from a lead sheet feeding device 9b as well.
