To provide an α-alumina molding by which α-alumina molding having high strength, large pore volume and large-sized complicated shape is easily obtained.

In the method for producing the α-alumina molding which is carried out by applying a treatment of covering the surface of alumina powder at least partially having rehydration property with a rehydration inhibitor, mixing with a molding aid and water to mold, applying a treatment of reducing the rehydration inhibiting ability of the rehydration inhibitor in the resultant molding, rehydrating the molding by holding in a wet atmosphere or in water and firing the rehydrated molding, an α-alumina fiber is further added when the alumina powder having the surface covered with the rehydration inhibitor is mixed with the molding aid and water and molded.
