To provide a method for obtaining crystalline docetaxel trihydrate by suspending anhydrous crystalline docetaxel in water and subsequently filtering and drying it.
Anhydrous crystalline docetaxel is suspended in 1-100 volume equivalent of water, preferably in 10-50 volume equivalent of water in the presence of an organic acid such as formic acid, acetic acid or the like, to form a crystal, which is filtered and dried under a condition of a temperature of room temperature to 60°C and 1-300 mmHg to give crystalline docetaxel trihydrate having qualities permitting use thereof as a pharmaceutical ingredient. As it is not necessary to leave water for hydration while removing a solvent used for crystallization unlike conventional methods, the control of the drying process can be quite easy.
