To provide a method for manufacturing a cycloolefin copolymer, the one formed by copolymerizing a cycloolefin, an alkenyl aromatic hydrocarbon and an α-olefin, which method gives a higher molecular weight copolymer.
The method manufactures the cycloolefin copolymer which has monomer units based on a cycloolefin, monomer units based on an alkenyl aromatic hydrocarbon and monomer units based on an α-olefin and in which the content of the monomer units based on the cycloolefin is 10-50 mol% and the content of the monomer units based on the alkenyl aromatic hydrocarbon is 1-50 mol%. In the method the cycloolefin, alkenyl aromatic hydrocarbon and α-olefin are copolymerized in the presence of a polymerization catalyst using a specific transition metal complex as a polymerization catalyst component.
