PURPOSE: To introduce exactly a fixed amount of mercury into a luminous tube by the procedure in which mercury and a metal added are amalgamated and its surface is covered with a stable powder, and then it is encapsuled and enclosed in an evacuated tube.
CONSTITUTION: The surface of the amalgam 6 of mercury and gallium is covered with the zirconium oxide powder 7, and then the amalgam is housed in the cylindrical capsule 5 and the silver iodie 8 is housed in the other capsule 5, both of which are housed in the capsule-housing chamber 4 provided in the evacuated tube 3. And, the evacuated tube 3 is coupled with the evacuation head 9 and then heat degassing is performed while evacuating the luminous tube 1 and the capsule-housing chamber 4. Then, the silver iodide 8 is dropped into the luminous tube 1 and a fixed degassing treatment is made, followed by the charging of the amalgam 6. Thus, a fixed amount of mercury can be exactly enclosed without contacting mercury to the inside wall of the evacuated tube on the way of charging.
