To provide a edge detection method for translucent film capable of accurately detecting the edge of a translucent film and reducing placing space.
On one side of the translucent film 2, a light source 6 and a photographing device 7 are arranged and light is cast from the light source 6 on one side of the translucent film 2. On the other side of the translucent film 2 in the part the light is cast, a hardly reflexive material 5 is arranged. With a camera 7 the part where the edge 2a of the translucent film 2 exists is photographed so as to receive the reflection light reflected from the upper surface of the translucent film 2. The edge 2a is detected in the edge detection method for translucent film 2 from the brightness difference in the image between the upper surface of the translucent film 2 and the part where the hardly reflexive material 5 is provided outside the edge 2a of the translucent film 2.
