To provide a method for producing a metal nano cluster by a ligand exchange method without regard to the type of a ligand.
The method for producing the metal nano cluster includes a process for exchanging sugar to be the ligand of a sugar-metal nano cluster with an objective ligand by making the sugar-metal nano cluster in which a metal or a metal oxide fine particle is coordinated with sugar as a precursor, and bringing the sugar-metal nano cluster into contact with a compound containing the objective ligand. The ligand of the sugar-metal nano cluster serving the precursor is preferably cyclodextrin, starch, dextrin, amylose, amylopectin, chitine, chitosane, cellulose, a monomer of poly mannose, an oligomar and a polymer.
