Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a multicore fiber in which a desired refractive index profile can be easily actualized and manufacturability is high.SOLUTION: There is provided a method of manufacturing a multicore fiber having a plurality of core parts, the method including a member preparing process of preparing a core base material for forming a center core region of at least one core part among the plurality of core parts, a first tubular member having an inner diameter large enough to store the core base material, and a clad part forming member having a hole having an inner diameter large enough to store the tubular member and for forming at least a part of a clad part; an optical fiber base material assembling process of storing the core base material in the first tubular member and storing the tubular member in the hole of the clad part forming member to assemble the optical fiber base material; and a drawing process of drawing the assembled optical fiber base material into a multicore fiber. The first tubular member has viscosity lower than viscosity of an adjacent region in the assembled optical fiber base material.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
