Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyarylate resin which reduces a residual amount of a quaternary ammonium salt as a polymerization catalyst and can enhance a molecular weight of the polyarylate resin.SOLUTION: A method for producing a polyarylate resin includes a synthesis step and a cleaning step, where the synthesis step includes subjecting a bisphenol derivative and an aromatic dicarboxylic acid derivative to interfacial polymerization using a polymerization catalyst, and the cleaning step includes cleaning an organic phase with cleaning water for multiple times to obtain a polyarylate resin. The polymerization catalyst is a quaternary ammonium salt represented by [(CH)YN]X. (Xrepresents a halide ion, a hydroxide ion or a hydrogen sulfate ion; and Y represents a propyl group, a butyl group or a benzyl group.) An absorbance of the polyarylate resin is 0.100 or less. (Absorbance is measured by filling a cell having an optical path length of 1.00 cm with 9.1 mass% of tetrahydrofuran solution based on polyarylate resin, and using light at a wavelength of 390 nm.)SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
