To provide a method for easily manufacturing an external spring probe which can be handled in a single state of not being fixed in a socket.
The method includes an insertion process wherein first and second molds are made to approach in the direction of the principal axis and a sliding part is inserted into a hollow portion of a tubular body part, a blocking process wherein by pressurizing the first and second molds so as to further approach in the direction of the principal axis, an opening end portion of a barrel precursor and a tapered portion of the first mold are brought into contact with each other so that the opening end portion is so deformed in conformity with the shape of the tapered portion as to block up partially an opening and to form it into a partially blocked-up portion and thereby the barrel precursor is made into a barrel, and a removing process wherein by separating first and second insert dies from each other, a coil spring having contacted with these insert dies are brought into contact with a projecting part of a plunger and the plunger urged in the direction of separation from the barrel by the elastic power of recovery of the coil spring forms the external spring probe being put in engagement by the partially blocked-up portion.
