Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-modified rubber which gives a rubber molded product having a desirable non-adhesion property, low friction property, wear resistance and plasma resistance, while maintaining the strength, compression set, sealing property, deformation-following property, etc., inherent to a rubber material, and a sealing material. SOLUTION: A surface-modified rubber is produced by bringing a rubber substrate into contact with a treating solution containing a polymerizable double bond-containing monomer, a polymerization initiator and a solvent and then heating the obtained contact-treated rubber substrate to polymerize the monomer and modify the rubber substrate surface and the vicinity thereof Preferably, a rubber substrate is brought into contact with a treating solution and impregnated with a polymerizable double bond-containing monomer and a polymerization initiator before the polymerizable double bond-containing monomer is polymerized.
