Abstract:
To provide a titanium-based ingot manufacturing method which can suppress occurrence of internal pores on a surface of a titanium-based ingot even using a titanium sponge with a relatively high chlorine content as dissolved raw material.SOLUTION: A titanium-based ingot manufacturing method includes: a dissolution process in which a dissolved raw material Ms, which contains, as a titanium sponge, a high chlorine content titanium sponge with a chlorine content of 0.15% by mass or more and in which a ratio of an amount of the high chlorine content titanium sponge in the total amount of titanium sponge is 4% or more on mass basis, is dissolved to obtain a molten metal Mm; and a casting process in which the molten metal Mm is flown into a casting mold 3, and when a melting point of a material constituting the molten metal Mm is represented by Tm(°C), a liquid surface temperature Ts(°C) of the molten metal Mm in the casting mold 3 is so made in a peripheral edge region near an inner surface 3a of the casting mold as to be Ts≥Tm+105°C.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
