To contrive better operability by properly displaying an icon serving as an indicator of user's instruction input on a map picture.
When a map picture to be displayed is determined in accordance with user's instruction input, a reference area setting section 13 equally divides the area of whole range shown by the map picture to be displayed into n pieces and sets the obtained value as a reference area. A specific name selection section 14 selects n specific names of the range whose range area is close to the reference area out of the areas contained in the map picture to be displayed. A display picture generating section 16 generates picture data so as to display the selected n specific names on the map picture as an icon, and a display control section 17 controls the drive of the display section based on the picture data. Thus the map picture determined in accordance with user's input instruction is displayed on a display section, and n pieces of specific names are superposed and displayed as an icon on the map picture.
