Abstract:
The marine diesel propulsion unit has a propeller shaft extending under engine from reduction gearbox at forward end. The unit comprises a medium speed diesel engine driving the propeller shaft via a reduction gearbox. The propeller shaft (4) extends below the engine (1), and the reduction gearbox (5) is at the forward end of the latter, away from the propeller (2). The engine support frame (30) is the unit with the bottom part (13) of the gearbox and thrust bearing housing (18). The thrust bearing can be outside the gearbox, but in line with it.
