To provide a masking tool for coating which is capable of facilitating masking work, preventing the occurrence of coating unevenness, easily cleaning after the work and drastically reducing the quantity of a harmful solvent to be used.

The masking tool for coating is characterized in that an iron made press plate 2 with a grip which is superposed on a nickel or copper made mask 1 molded by electrocasting method is placed on an article 3 to be coated and is set on a positioning tool 4 in the bottom side of the article to be held across the mask using magnetic force of a permanent magnet 6 or electromagnet as the set position is kept.
