PURPOSE: To assure an improvement in melting efficiency and operation safety by heating charging materials in a nonoxidative atmosphere in a heating furnace disposed near an induction melting furnace and charging these materials into the melting furnace while maintaining the nonoxidative atmosphere.
CONSTITUTION: The Al-Li base materials M to be additionally charged into the melting furnace F are charged in a direction X along skid rails 5 from a material supply port 3 of the heating furnace 1 having an induction heating coil 2, are rolled in a direction Y and are moved to a discharge port 4 side. The pressure in the heating furnace 1 is reduced down to about 27Pa and gaseous argon is sealed into the furnace when the materials M are charged into the heating coil 3. The materials are then heated to about 773K by high-frequency induction current. The material M-2 existing on the discharge port 4 side among the heated materials M is extruded in a direction Z by a pusher 10 from the discharge port 4 and is charged through bellows 7, a gate valve 8 and a passage 9 into the melting furnace F held in the inert atmosphere. As a result, the safe operation improved in efficiency is assured without polluting the atmosphere of the melting furnace F and without the danger of steam explosion.
