Abstract:

PURPOSE: To make it possible to produce a material for contact lenses excellent in hydrophilic nature and surface hardness and high in permeability to oxygen, by using a copolymer of monomers containing as essential components a specific hydrophilic monomer and a silicon-containing (meth)acrylate.

CONSTITUTION: A material for contact lenses is made of a copolymer produced from monomers containing, as essential components, 5W20pts.wt. hydrophilic monomer (a) which comprises 40W60mol.% N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone and 40W60mol.% methacrylic acid and 30W95pts.wt. at least one of a silicon- containing acrylate and a silicon-containing methacrylate (b) in 100pts.wt. total of the monomers to be polymerized.
