To provide a fuel cell stack capable of maintaining constant water retention while water generated at an MEA can be easily exhausted.
The membrane-electrode assembly for a fuel cell includes an electrolyte membrane for a fuel cell, an anode electrode plate arranged on a side of the electrolyte membrane and a cathode electrode plate arranged on the other side of the electrolyte membrane so as to prevent a flooding phenomenon by exhausting an appropriate quantity of water to maintain water retention of the electrolyte membrane. The cathode electrode plate is provided forming a hydrophobic part with a larger hydrophobicity than a peripheral part, a density of the hydrophobic part on an inside region adjoining an estimated center of the cathode electrode plate is formed larger than that on an outside region positioned outside of the inside region of the cathode electrode plate.
