By applying a plurality of stimulation signals (Si) with different features at least to one input of an optical device (DUT (10)) for objects to be inspected with (m) inputs (m=1, 2, 3,..., M) and (n) outputs (n=1, 2, 3,..., N), the DUT (10) is inspected. By receiving a response signal (Ri) responding to the stimulation signals (Si) with one output from among (n) outputs to evaluate the response signal (Ri) by using the applied stimulation signals (Si) or the instruction of them, the characteristic of the DUT (10) is judged or verified. A plurality of the stimulation signals (Si) with the different features are applied with a method that can trace (confirming the existence of each of the stimulation signals (Si) applied individually, that is, confirming whether they exceed a detectable threshold value or not) each of the stimulation signals (Si) applied individually in the response signals (Ri).
