Abstract:
Provided is a medium transport device with which it is possible to satisfactorily mount, on a placement platform, a roller for assisting in transport of a medium. This medium transport device has a placement platform having a placement surface on which a medium is placed and in which an opening is provided, a roller for assisting in transport of the medium, and a holding unit that is provided on the placement surface and that holds the two ends of a rotating shaft of the roller, the holding unit having a first arm part and a second arm part that stand erect on the obverse side of the placement surface, and at least one of the first and second arm parts being provided so as to flex toward the outer side in a direction orthogonal to the medium transport direction when the roller is mounted from the reverse side of the placement surface via the opening.
