To reduce the work load of an engineer in the photographing work when a diagnostic image is obtained by photographing a subject, and to obtain the image without blurring suitable for diagnosis.
In an image processing device used by the engineer for confirming the image, the size of permissible blurring is previously set as an acceptable value as the blurring of the diagnostic image. The edges included in the image are detected in a plurality of directions defined on the image and the quantity of characteristics of each edge is computed. Then, the process of automatically discriminating the size and direction of blurring of the image based on the computed quantity of characteristics is executed. Further, by comparing the discriminated size of blurring with the previously set acceptable value, whether the blurring of the image is acceptable as the blurring of the diagnostic image or not is automatically determined. If it is determined that the blurring of the image is unacceptable, the message demanding re-photography of the subject, etc. is output on the screen of the information processing device.
