Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an implant device for delivering a therapeutic medicament from a lacrimal point of an eye tissue of a patient, a system and a method.SOLUTION: An implant 100 to be inserted into a lacrimal point of a patient comprises a main body. The main body comprises a distal terminal, a proximal terminal, and a shaft therebetween. The distal terminal of the main body passes through a lacrimal point and can be inserted into a lacrimal duct lumen. The main body comprises a therapeutic medicament included in a medicament matrix 170 medicament core 110. By exposing the medicament matrix to a lacrimal fluid, a therapeutic medicament is efficiently discharged into a lacrimal fluid for a duration. The main body comprises a sheath 120 which is arranged to cover the medicament matrix for preventing the medicament from being discharged while separating from the proximal terminal. The main body comprises an external surface which is configured to engage to a lumen wall tissue so as to prevent the main body from being excluded when the main body is arranged inside. In a specific embodiment, the medicament matrix comprises a non-biological absorbent polymer such as silicone, in an uneven admixture with the medicament.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1A
