To obtain the subject composition which is effective for lowering the level of a phosphate in a serum without increasing the absorption of calcium, aluminum, and so on, by including a (co)polymer having specific repeating units.
This medicinal composition contains a (co)polymer having repeating units of formulas I to IV [(n) is an integer; R, R1 and R2 are each a lower alkyl or the like; X is a substitutable negative counterion (for example, chloride ion)] or the like, [for example, poly(allylamine) hydrochloride], which is preferably cross-linked with a cross-linking agent (for example, epichlorohydrin). The (co)polymer is obtained, for example, by adding 1 to 100 pts. of epichlorohydrin to a solution containing 100 pts. of polyethyleneimine and then heating the mixture to accelerate the reaction. The cross-linking agent is preferably used in an amount of about 0.5 to 75 wt.% based on the composition.
