PURPOSE: To obtain an anti-inflammatory agent containing quinoline or quinazoline derivative having anti-inflammatory action, low in toxicity and especially useful as a treating agent for arthritis.
CONSTITUTION: This anti-inflammatory agent contains a compound of formula I [Y is N or C-G (G is a carbonyl group which may be esterified); R1 and R2 are each H, a hydrocarbon residue or a heterocyclic group, etc.; ring A and ring B may have substituent groups; (n) is an integer of 1 to 4; (k) is 0 or 1] or its salt. Especially, a compound having a structure of formula II R3 and R4 are independently each an alkoxy) among the compound of formula I is a new compound, e.g. 4-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-2-(N-sec-butyl-N- propylaminomethyl)-6,7-dimethoxyquinoline-3-carboxylic acid ethyl ester. Furthermore, the compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a compound of formula III (Q is an eliminable group) with a compound of formula IV in the presence of a base.
