PURPOSE: To obtain a melanogenesis suppressor consisting of an O-glycoside of tetrahydrocopalol and useful for preventing and improving chromatosis and obtain a skin external preparation containing the suppressor.
CONSTITUTION: This melanogenesis suppressor consists of an O-glycoside of tetrahydrocopalol expressed by the formula (R is a monosaccharide residue, a disaccharide residue or a trisaccharide residue). The compound of the formula has suppressing action on melanogenesis and suppressing action on pigmentation and the compound is excellent in whitening effect and it has high stability and safety. This skin external preparation is obtained by blending 0.0001-10wt.% of the compound of the formula into a skin external preparation base. Since the resultant skin external preparation is remarkably excellent in whitening effect on skin and useful for improving and treating local chromatosis such as stain, ephelis or blacked skin due to sunburn and systemic chromatosis such as Addison's disease and it has high safety, the skin external preparation can continuously be used for a long period. The preparation can be prepared in a formulation such as ointment, cream, milky lotion, lotion, pack or a bathing agent.
