Abstract:
PURPOSE:To decrease the viscosity of a polyester resin melt without lowering the degree of polymerization by adding a specific melt viscosity depressant to the resin. CONSTITUTION:100 pts.wt. polyester resin which has an ethylene terephthalate unit as the main repeating unit and a unit formed by partly replacing the terephthalic acid with a sulfonate represented by formula I (wherein D is a trivalent aromatic or aliphatic hydrocarbon group; X1 is an ester-forming functional group; X2 is the same as X1 or H; M is an alkali (or alkaline earth) metal or an onium; and q is 1 or 2) is mixed with 0.1-10 pts.wt. melt viscosity depressant comprising a compound represented by formula II or III (wherein A is a branched acyl represented by formula IV, where R1 to R3 each is an alkyl or H, provided that at least two of them are alkyls; R is a 1-4C alkylene or styrene; p is 1 or 2; m and n are each such an integer that m+n is 2-4 on the average; X is an aromatic group; and Y is an aromatic alcohol residue or a phenol residue).
