To improve a thermal efficiency in a melting device equipped with a vertical melting furnace.
The charging unit 21 of a ferrous raw material 2 is provided above the melting furnace and the supplying unit 26 of carbon fuel 3 is provided below the charging unit 21 of the ferrous raw material 2 in the melting furnace while the charging and falling unit 29 for only the ferrous raw material 2 is formed between the charging unit 21 of the ferrous raw material 2 and the supplying unit 26 of the carbon fuel 3. A melting zone 25 is formed in a part lower than the supplying unit 26 of the carbon fuel 3 while the discharging unit 8 of gas generated in the furnace is provided in the upper part of the melting furnace. In the charging and falling unit 29 for only the ferrous raw material 2, CO in the generating gas is burnt under the absence of the carbon fuel 3 to sensitize a heat energy owned by the exhaust gas whereby the ferrous raw material 2 is preheated.
