To provide melting equipment and a treatment method which enable efficient execution of both melting of a cold iron source and treatment of waste or enable efficient treatment of car scraps subjected to shredding, without causing a disadvantage such as fuming.
The melting equipment having a melting chamber 1 and a preheating chamber 2 provided above the chamber 1 and connected thereto directly are used. On the occasion of melting the cold iron source, the cold iron source in the melting chamber 1 is melted, while it is supplied consecutively and intermittently to the preheating chamber 2, and molten metal is cast at the time point when a prescribed amount of molten metal is gathered in the melting chamber 1. On the occasion of treating the waste, the waste is supplied consecutively or intermittently into the preheating chamber 2, while the molten metal in the melting chamber 1 is heated. The waste is thermally decomposed or burned in the course to the melting chamber 1 and burnable portions thereof are gasified, while metal components in unburnable portions are melted in the molten metal and the other portions are slagged by the molten metal in the melting chamber 1.
