PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a melting holding furnace having a heater for efficiently heating, dissolving and retaining a material.SOLUTION: A melting holding furnace includes: a furnace tank for holding, at a predetermined temperature, a molten metal of a material for casting melted by heating in order to supply the molten metal to a casting mold apparatus; and a heater for heating the molten metal so as to retain the molten state, and installed above the furnace tank, and the heater is characterized in that the surface is processed so as to radiate infrared rays of a wavelength band susceptible to heat absorption to the surface layer of the molten metal.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
