Abstract:

To prevent the occurrence of telescoping in which layers are not in the right places during use in a device provided with a first and a second honeycomb body and a holding cylinder for holding the honeycomb bodies by inserting a stopper assembly in a prescribed space between the honeycomb bodies.

A metal carrier for an electrically heating type catalyst device 10 is formed by coaxially arranging a second honeycomb body downstream of a first honeycomb body leaving a prescribed space C, and a stopper assembly 13 is installed in the space C. The outer side faces of the honeycomb bodies 11, 12 are covered with outer cylinders 11a, 12a respectively, and are inserted in a common holding cylinder 15 through an electrical insulating material 14. The stopper assembly 13 is integrally formed of ceramic material and is a honeycomb body equipped with a lot of mesh-like vent paths in the direction of an exhaust gas flow. Since end faces thereof in the axial direction 13a, 13b are abutted on the end faces of the honeycomb bodies 11, 12 opposite thereto respectively, the movement and the telescoping of the first honeycomb body 11 de to gas flow is prevented.
