PURPOSE: To bring a honeycomb body and an outer cylinder into strong mutual contact by means of permeation of aluminum.
CONSTITUTION: A metal carrier is formed in such constitution that the outer circumferential surface of a honeycomb body 1 composed of a wave plate 1b, and contact parts between the wave plate 1b and the outer cylinder 2 positioned on the outer circumferential surface are brought in dispersion-contact with each other by means of permeation of aluminum. The honeycomb body 1 whose outer circumferential surface is composed of the wave plate 1b is formed, the honeycomb body 1 is then inserted in the outer cylinder 2, to be integrated with it and heated in aluminum powder bath. The honeycomb body 1 is subjected to aluminum-dispersion-treated, and simultaneously, the aluminum is forced to permeate the contact part between the wave plate 1b and the outer cylinder 2 positioned on the outer circumferential surface, and both components are brought in dispersion-contact with each other.
