To prevent a deviation of a wax foil material interposed between a honeycomb structure and the wax foil material and at the same time, prevent a dropout of the honeycomb structure from a cylindrical member.
A honeycomb carrier 9 constituted by winding while overlapping a flat plate and a corrugated plate mutually is housed in a cylindrical container 7, and lid members 15 are attached so as to cover both ends of the honeycomb carrier 9. The lid members 15 are formed in a lattice form provided with a vent hole through which an emission gas can pass, and are fitted in a groove 7a inside both ends of the container 7 movably with a clearance. The cylindrical container 7 is formed by shaping a tabular cutlength sheet which has the grooves 7a previously formed in a U-shaped form by a press working, and after housing the lid member 15 and the honeycomb carrier 9 as it remains in the U-shaped form, it is shaped in a cylindrical form.
