Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording medium which can deal with high- speed recording and excels in recording sensitivity by using a novel metal chelate pigment in a recording layer. SOLUTION: The metal chelate pigment is a chelate pigment of an azo compound of the formula (wherein ring A is an aromatic ring and may have a substituent in addition to an iodine atom; X is any one of -CR1R2-, -NR1-, -S-, and -O-; R1 and R2 are each independently a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or an aryl group; ring B is an aromatic group and may have a substituent in addition to Z; and Z is a group having an active hydrogen which participates in the chelate formation with a metal) with a metal. The optical recording medium has a recording layer containing this metal chelate pigment.
